Dr. Mike Petty

Dr. Michael Petty, DVM, is the author of Dr. Petty's Pain Relief for Dogs: The Complete Medical and Integrative Guide to Treating Pain (Countryman Press, February 2016). He is a veterinarian and certified veterinary pain management expert and acupuncturist. As the owner of the Arbor Pointe Veterinary Hospital and the Animal Pain Center in Canton, Michigan, he has devoted his professional life to the care and wellbeing of animals.

Dr. Petty is the past president of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management and the co-author of the AAHA/AAFP 2015 Pain Guidelines. A frequent speaker and consultant, he has published articles in veterinary journals and serves in an advisory capacity to several pharmaceutical companies on topics of pain management. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on pain management and rehabilitation topics.

Within this sphere of care, Dr. Petty has expanded his knowledge to encompass the most up-to-date and compassionate treatments available. These special skills include the following pain management certifications and distinctions:

  • Canine Rehabilitation Therapist Certification (CCRT)
  • Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture
  • Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner (CVPP)
  • Diplomate, American Academy of Pain Management

Dr. Petty is a 1980 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University. He has been the owner of Arbor Pointe Veterinary Hospital since 1985. He lives in rural Michigan on a horse farm with his wife and two daughters, along with Alvin, a rescue cat, and Kiki and Kai, both Portuguese Water Dogs.

Beth has been with Arbor Pointe in her capacity as office manager and receptionist since 1994.  Prior to coming to Arbor Pointe she worked at a national testing lab that served both human and veterinary practices.

Margaret received her veterinary technicians license in 1997 from Wayne County Community College,  and is a Fear Free Certified professional. Prior to joining Arbor Pointe Veterinary Hospital she worked in avian and exotic medicine, and small animal practice.

Cleo the hospital cat

Cleo, IT manager

Joined our team in 2016 from the Homeward Bound rescue group.  She says she is certified in IT management but we are still waiting for her to produce the certificate.  Her only demonstrable computer skill is clogging up the intakes with fur.
